Ideas editor
Mika Sato is the magazine’s ideas editor and writes essays on work, rest, and attention: what we owe the night shift, why leisure is not a reward, and why upkeep deserves more credit than invention. She spent four years as the night receptionist at a harborfront hotel in Halbridge, then a decade teaching philosophy to teenagers, and her collection The Unhurried Hour grew out of both. She still lives in Halbridge, writes every first draft by hand, and has kept email off her phone since 2019.
